Sandor Kovacs beat Lenny Montana Note: December 13, 1959 - A story by reporter Phil Dietrich appears on the Akron Boxing and Wrestling Commission turning Jack Stanley down for a new promotion. He wanted to promote at the Rollercade, using Al Haft's stable and Buddy Rogers. At the September meeting, he was turned down, as Akron couldn't support two weekly shows. Haft wore out his welcome. His booking office was sending poorer and poorer wrestlers. Walter Moore, who promoted for years at the Akron Arena for Haft, switched to Pedro Martinez's booking office in late 1958. Akron, Ohio: December 19, 1959 Fritz and Waldo von Erich beat Ilio DiPaolo and Bobo Brazil ... Lord Layton beat Hard Boiled Haggerty ... Billy Lyons beat Sandor Kovacs ... Mike Valentino drew with Lenny Montana Akron, Ohio: December 26, 1959 Bobo Brazil drew with Fritz von Erich ... (Midgets) Little Beaver and Tiny Tim beat Sky Low Low and Irish Jackie ... Don Lewin drew with Johnny Foti Note: Pedro Martinez often seemed to change his wrestlers names in Buffalo. Chief Chewacki showed up there, and also in Cleveland. However, Akron promoters billed Chewacki as Lenny Montana, because he was well known in that city. The Akron reporters likely messed up more wrestlers names than any place I know. I have tried to straighten out the names as best I can. Promoter: Walter Moore Research by Don Luce |
