The Canon City Daily Record (5/10/78) stated: “Negro, a former middleweight and light heavyweight boxer, lost by decision to two-time boxing heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson in the Pan-American Games during the 1950s. As a power weightlifter, Negro bench-pressed 560 pounds.” The paper said that Funk “with his father, Dory Funk Sr., popularized the family name to grappling fans throughout the world.” He was a former captain of the football team at West Texas State. Dennis Stamp “was an NCAA wrestling All-American at Concordia College.” Larry Lane was a Colorado native and “three time Rocky Mountain Conference champion while at the University of Northern Colorado.” Lane and Funk hold the Western States Tag Team Title.
