Denver, Colorado: Friday, February 27, 1920 (Tramway Auditorium) ... Professor Takahashi b. Emil Demetri (2-0) (Takahashi won the first fall in 17:00 with a jiu-jitsu hold and the second with an arm lock in 32:00) ... eight preliminary matches occurred, but none were listed in the Denver Post) ... (promoter: Frank Gentry) Notes: Takahashi was a jiu-jitsu wrestler. Demetri served in the Romanian Army for 27 months and "wears a war cross conferred upon him by the king of Romania for bravery, and according to the clippings he carries, there were only thirteen who were awarded these crosses." He reportedly served on both the western and eastern fronts during the war. Neither Demetri or Takahashi weighed more than 165 pounds. The main event was said to be the "best wrestling match seen in Denver in a couple of years, but still left lots of room for improvement." The unnamed person who covered the show also noted that there were eight preliminary bouts, which were "about three too many." Research by Tim Hornbaker October 22, 2010 |
