Between April and July 1963, Johnny Doyle and Jim Barnett sold their interest in Denver
to Dory Funk Sr. More talent came into the territory from the West Texas circuit.  Dory
Funk Jr. later explained it by saying:  “There was a time that my father/The Amarillo
Territory bought Denver from Doyle and Barnett and the surrounding towns.  Later he
sold Denver itself to Verne, however in the contract he did not sell the surrounding
towns.”
