In 1947 / 48 he wrestled in Roseburg, Oregon, under his name, Joe Lynam. In Portland he used the name Jim Lynam.

On Saturday, September 25, 1948, 3:07 pm he died in a plane crash 20 miles away from Bend, Oregon. He was flying in a Navy Surplus aircraft - NC62389, from Boise, Idaho, to Redmond, Oregon (Washington?), and was booked to wrestle in Eugene, Oregon, that night, when the plane struck Horse Ridge, 500 feet from the Summit, just after taking off from Bend in rain and fog. He was 31 years old. He was flying the plane. Someone else was suppose to be with him, but backed out at the last minute with fear that something was going to happen to the plane.  Lived in Redmond, Oregon, where he graduated from high school.  His daughter Joleen was born on June 26, 1948

WRESTLING CAREER
He began wrestling in the early 1930's and was a leading contender on the Pacific Coast where he held the championship for four years. He remained a popular wrestler until his death.

On Sunday afternoon, April 1, 1952 McGinnis was working out at Ocean Park Arena in Ocean Park, Santa Monica, when he suddenly dropped dead. The cause of death was hardening of the arteries. His remains were taken to the

McCormick Colonial Mortuary in Manhattan Beach. Services were held at Grace Chapel in Inglewood.

WRESTLING CAREER
He came to America with his parents when he was very young. In the early 1900's he started wrestling professionally in Connecticut. He mainly wrestled in the New England area. He primarily worked for Boston promoter, Tony Santos' Big Time Wrestling. In the 1960's he was a trainer at Santos' wrestling school in Boston. One of his pupils was Gene Dundee.

They formed a tag team called The Fabulous Zangaroos. He also teamed up with a young Pat Patterson. 

HEAVYWEIGHT TITLES
On May 18, 1956 he defeated Larry Chene in Longview, Washington, for the Pacific Coast Junior Heavyweight Championship. In 1966 he held the Big Time Wrestling New England Heavyweight Championship.

In 1917 he began a new career as a movie character actor. Between then and 1937 he appeared in 88 movies and was once managed by the Douglas Fairbanks. He also continued to wrestle.

The graves of Monsoon and his son, Joey Marella, are located in the Chapel View East and Chapel View West area, at the end of Route 130.

WRESTLING CAREER
He started wrestling at the age of eight at the local YMCA and continued on in high school and college. In 1959 he was apart of the Olympic wrestling team and traveled to Russia, Turkey and Bulgaria. He turned professional in the early 1960's under the name Gino Marella and made his debut in the National Wrestling Federation in Rochester, for promoter Pedro Martinez.  He was later introduced as The Manchurian Giant from Manchuria, China.

He started as a wrestling villain, (heel), and was managed by Wild Red Berry. In November 1963 Monsoon and Killer Kowalski defeated Skull Murphy and Brute Bernard for the WWWF U.S. tag title. The following month they lost them to Chris and John Tolos. In April 1965 he and Cowboy Bill Watts held the WWWF U.S. tag belts until July '65 when they lost them to Dr. Bill and Dan Miller. In January 1966 he teamed with El Mongol to win the WWA tag belts in Los Angeles. In 1978 he held the WWC North American title in Puerto Rico.  In the early 1970's Monsoon changed his ring ethics and became a popular fan favorite and continued as such until he retired from ring action in the 1980's.

Upon retiring from the ring Monsoon became a television commentator for the WWF alongside the likes of Roddy Piper and Jesse "The Body" Ventura, but is best remembered as being the straight man  Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. In 1996 he became the president of the WWF.

In 1998 Gorilla became ill and started slowing down. He continued to make appearances on WWF television until shortly before his death in 1999.

It was never mentioned but Gorilla Monsoon was the father of WWF referee Joey Marella.

His funeral services were held at Goes - Scolient Funeral Home in Willingboro, New Jersey. Vince McMahon spoke the eulogy. Minnesota
Governor Jesse "The Body" Ventura, sent a letter that sat up in the coffin throughout the service and was buried with Monsoon.

It's been reported that O'Connor had a Monarch Butterfly tatooed on his hand. Legend has it that the Monarch Butterfly returns to it's place of birth, to die.

WRESTLING CAREER
Most people remember Nat Pendleton from his many films, but before making a name for himself on the silver screen, he made a name for himself in the squared circle as a wrestler, first as an Intercollegiate then Olympic and finally professional wrestler.
1914 - 1915
While attending Columbia University he held the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA), championship twice, in the 175 pound class.  He graduated in 1916.
1916
After graduating from Columbia University, he won the National AAU Wrestling Championship, representing the New York Athletic Club.
1920
Wrestled for the United States in the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium, winning a silver medal in the Free - Style Heavyweight division, and losing only one match due to a controversial point - decision. After that he started wrestling professionally.
1923
Promoter Jack Curley brought Pendleton into his promotion and started promoting me aggressively and issuing challenges. Curley stated that Pendleton could beat Ed "Strangler" Lewis and any other wrestler on the same night. A legitimate match was set up between him and John Pesek.

Pesek defeated and injuried young Pendleton, winning the $8000 purse.  Nat continued to wrestle as a fan favorite until finding fame in the movies as a character actor.
