*A note written by either Jack Pfefer or Willie Gilzenberg on the back of a 1959 letter from Gilzenberg to Pfefer stated: “I think it’s the beginning of a big stinkaro – Vince – Phil Zack Jim Crocket Bill Lewis, Jerry Graham Big Heart and many others are in summoned who knows what will develop? Send me the clipping back” Note: This likely had to do with the Virginia Athletic Commission and the Justice Department investigation in 1959-’60. *According to the December 18, 1959 edition of the Washington Post, Times Herald stated: “Jerry Graham Faces Suspension in Virginia: Richmond, Va., Dec. 17 (AP) – Jerry Graham has been ordered by the state athletic commission to show cause within 15 days why his Virginia license to wrestle should not be suspended. Graham had been subpoenaed by the commission to appear before it Tuesday at a public hearing on charges that a wrestling monopoly exists in the state. He did not show but sent a telegraham from New York saying he had a commitment to wrestle elsewhere Tuesday.” *A letter from Willie Gilzenberg to Jack Pfefer dated December 21, 1959 stated: “See where Parker is doing a job on Jerry Graham. He points out about his license revoked in Richmond – or Virginia. This could be damaging because of the inter-state affiliations.” On January 13, 1960, Joseph F. Walker, Commissioner of the New Jersey State Athletic Commission, wrote a letter to Vincent McMahon in Washington, D.C., informing him that Graham failed to appear at the Labor Lyceum on January 9 because he reportedly missed a flight from Cuba. Walker didn't want to suspend Graham, but wanted him to appear his commitment in Newark "at the earliest possible time, in a match against Bruno Sammartino. *The National Wrestling Association suspended Jerry Graham based on a recommendation from New York City for the “best interest of wrestling, indefinitely” on April 18, 1960. Graham remained on the NWA suspended list through at least April 21, 1962. Washington D.C., April 21, 1960 (Capitol Arena) … The Bastien Brothers (Lou and Red Bastien) b. He had ten days to appear and show cause for his actions. It was "signed" by Don Brennan, Executive Secretary of the Virginia Athletic Commission. *A letter from Willie Gilzenberg to Jack Pfefer dated May 9, 1960 stated: “Babe wrote me all about Dr. Jerry Graham. I never did believe that two wrongs could right anything, so I am not going to make myself regret the fact that I was able to keep Jerry out of jail. Don't forget, only two weeks ago, Toots and Kola were arguing with Vince about keeping Jerry in the territory. Vince was for getting rid of him at the time. As far as the antics by fellows like Graham and Valentine, they will happen again and again because as you have said many times, there is "no head or tail." And, Jack, I am afraid it is now too late for anything representing discipline in the territory. The wrestling show schedueld Saturday night at Griffith Stadium was cancelled when some of the wrestlers failed to show up. Wrestler Jerry Graham was promoter of the show. Note: Washington D.C. did not have a boxing and wrestling commission, so it couldn’t have been apart of the National Wrestling Association. Graham could compete there.
