*In January 1934, Peter J. Mehringer, former University of Kansas football player, turned
professional wrestler in Kansas City.  Mehringer, according to an Associated Press
report, stated that he “got his first instruction in the sport from Ed (Strangler) Lewis and
the latter’s manager, Billy Sandow.

Notes:  Prior to the main event, Everette Marshall and Billy Sandow entered the ring, and
Marshall disrobed, revealing his wrestling gear.  He then challenged Browning, ready to
post a forfeit.  “In disgust,” according to the United Press report, Browning and Speers
left the ring and “refused to return until police had ejected Marshall.  The Colorado
wrestler said the incident was positive proof he should be declared champion.” The U.P.
report Marshall the “eccentric wrestler from La Junta, Colo.”
