second fall, O’Connor went for a dropkick, and, according to the report, all of his 276
pounds landed on his neck.  A sharp crack was heard by ringsiders, but neither his
opponent or the referee were aware of what had happened.  Wright continued to pummel
the semi-conscious O’Connor before the referee, Jack League, realized what had
happened.  Officials stormed the ring and carried him to the dressing room.  There, Dr.
George Hobson of the Kansas City Athletic Commission ordered an ambulance, and it
was said that O’Connor was suffering from a possible cracked vertebrea.  He was taken
to St. Margaret’s Hospital) (Wright was booked by police with the charge of “intent to kill,”
but it was pending the determination of O’Connor’s injuries.  A hearing was scheduled for
