Tim Hornbaker is asking for help from fellow researchers, fans, family members...etc. in
resolving the following questions pertaining to sports history.  If you have any information,

1.  Probably the most important question I have at the moment (9/30/2010) is locating the
date of death for longtime promoter, sports writer, and personality,
Al Mayer.  Mayer was
born in France, and worked as part of the Sarah Bernhardt Company traveling tour in
1905 and 1906.  He actually wrote the lengthy obituary piece on Bernhardt for the New
York Times in March 1923.  In the 1920s, he was a notable boxing manager (boxer
Paulino Uzcudun), and then worked within the pro wrestling business between the 1930s
and '50s.  After that, he devoted more time to being a sportswriter.  His wife was
Margaret.  Al Mayer was still alive in 1952-'53, and then disappeared.  It seems none of
the major publications recognized his passing.  However, one of the sports magazines
may have.  If anyone has any information, please drop me an e-mail.  His full name was
"Alfred Mayer." Another source said his wife was Emma.
