The United Press ran an article on March 8, 1938 about McCready's arrival in England from Canada in what he dubbed to be a "crusade." McCready boasted about the scientific wrestling being staged in New Zealand and Australia, and decried the "all-in" style in England. He claimed the British Empire championship and to prove that he was the rightful titleholder, he agreed to meet anyone in a gym for free with sports writers as witnesses. He explained that: "I am told that a great many sportsmen in England have ceased to be interested in wrestling here because the all-in variety has antagonized them. I should imagine it would antagonize anyone with elementary knowledge of the sport." Research by Tim Hornbaker |
