*In June 1933 (after June 21) at the Coast Guard Station in Staten Island, New York, a
show was held with Joe Savoldi facing a fellow member of his troupe, Sol Slagel.  Slagel
talked with Rudy Dusek before the bout, and Dusek convinced Slagel to attempt a double-
cross, and the latter ended up being disqualified.  Dusek wanted payback on Savoldi for
the double-cross on Jim Londos in Chicago.

*In the Wednesday, October 18, 1933 edition of the New York Times, it was reported that
Jack Curley was, yesterday, given licenses to promote at the 102d Engineers Regiment
Armory, which was also known as the 22nd Engineers Regiment Armory, in Manhattan,
and the 106th Infantry Armory in Brooklyn.  This approval was granted in spite of the
negative comments of Madison Square Garden President Colonel John Reed Kilpatrick
and promoters Captain Ed Whitwell of the New York Coliseum in the Bronx and I.P. Flatto
of the Ridgewood Grove in Brooklyn.  The article said that “they based their protests on
the ground that issuance of the licenses would provide unfair competition between the
armories, which do not pay property taxes, and the regular wrestling and boxing club,
which do.” Kilpatrick called the decision was setting a “bad precedent.” Up until this point,
Curley had limited his armory promotions to the 71st Regiment Armory.  Curley also
provided a signed contract by championship claimant Jim Browning to meet Jim Londos
with the former waiving “the champion’s arbitrary financial guarantee, amounting to 37 ½
per cent, and split evenly with Londos 50 per cent of the receipts from a title match.”
Additionally, the State Athletic Commission approved a wrestling license to promote at the
Central Sports Arena on Fridays.
