Smith, Joe Stangl) … (announcer: Teddy White) … (in attendance: Earl Caddock, Ed “Strangler” Lewis, Clarence Eklund, Larney Lichtenstein, Ed Ratsch, Tom Draak, Maxwell Baumann, Johnny Meyers, Ed White, Charley Moon) … (6,000 fans) Notes: John Pesek met with Chicago boxing manager Larney Lichtenstein (they were already loosely affiliated) and the latter would ink Pesek to a deal that would send him east for a tour. The deal, signed through Mart Slattery, would send him through Rockford, Chicago, Norfolk, Altoona and other cities. Joe Stangl had two scheduled matches in Iowa, on January 14 in Mason City against Helmer Myre and against Henry Grubmeyer of Harlan on January 22. Trains from throughout the region were coming in with spectators to see the match. The town of Shelton closed for fans to come to Omaha to see the match. 500 seats for the Shelton group were reserved by Mart Slattery.
