*A controversial match between Texas State Heavyweight Champion Fritz Von Erich and Billy "Red" Lyons on December 7, 1965 in Dallas ended with Texas Commissioner Sammy George declaring the Texas Title vacant. Lyons initially pinned Von Erich to win the fall, but the referee Marvin Jones had been knocked out and couldn't score the victory. A second referee, Dick Raines, then counted Von Erich's pin of Lyons. However, George stepped in and vacated the championship. Von Erich and Lyons tried to settle the situation on December 21 in a bout for the vacant strap, but they went to a 60-minute draw with no falls.
