Toronto Wrestling Territory
Brief History:
Background:
Having the background as matchmaker for Jack Corcoran going back to about 1934, John Tunney was considered the heir apparent, while Frank was believed to be strictly a behind-the-scenes guy. The always organized Frank Tunney was schooled in business, and for Johnny, there wasn't a better person on the planet to handle the office of the Maple Leaf Garden wrestling promotion than his brother. There was also a trust factor there, that was unsteady in many other territories. For the Tunneys, there were still hurdles to be overcome, but the foundation was certainly there.
Miscellaneous Notes and Milestones:
The Toronto Star, on November 1, 1980, announced that Frank Tunney Sports Ltd. of Toronto and Jim Crockett Promotions, Inc. were uniting to establish Frank Tunney Sports Promotion "to stage wrestling events at Maple Leaf Gardens" and other facilities during summer months.
