
WrestleWar ’91 -World Championship Wrestling presented Wrestle War on Sunday, February 24, 1991 from the Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, Arizona. A special edition of the “Danger Zone” with Paul E. Dangerously was held. El Gigante was interviewed. Jason Hervey, star of the Wonder Years, was in the audience as well was the former NWA World Television Champion, the Great Muta. Nikita Koloff and Hiro Matsuda were also in attendance. Missy Hyatt became the first woman to enter the WCW dressing room for an exclusive interview. She was accosted by Stan Hansen. WCW’s tour of the Orient in March was talked about throughout the show. Tony Schiavone interviewed Matsuda about the big WCW/ New Japan Supershow. Muta employed his famous mist. -Tony Schiavone opened the show. Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes performed commentary. -WAR GAMES: Sting’s Squadron (Sting, Brian Pillman and Rick and Scott Steiner) vs. Flair’s Forces…aka…The Four Horsemen (Sid Vicious, Barry Windham, Larry Zbyszko and Ric Flair, NWA/ WCW World Heavyweight Champion). The match was stopped by referee, Nick Patrick after Vicious hit Pillman with two powerbombs. -El Gigante carried Pillman back to the dressing room. Number Entered: 1. Brian Pillman 2. Garvin pinned Simmons to capture the World Title. -Reed and Simmons were accompanied by Teddy Long. -The Freebirds were accompanied by Dallas Page, who introduced Big Daddy Dink. Page then left the ring area. -Both Page and Dink had been accompanied by “Diamond Dolls.” -Referee: Randy Anderson. -Doom broke up as a team after the match. -Dan Spivey vs. Lex Luger, NWA/ WCW United States Heavyweight Champion. Luger won by pinfall. -Referee: Nick Patrick. -After the match, Grizzly Smith and former U.S. Champion Nikita Koloff were to present Luger with the new $20,000 United States Belt. Instead of just handing the gold over and celebrating with him, Koloff attacked the “Total Package.” -The State Patrol (Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker and Lieutenant James Earl Wright) and The Big Cat vs. Junkyard Dog, Ricky Morton and Tommy Rich, NWA/ WCW World Six-Man Tag Team Champions. Morton pinned Parker to retain the title after JYD landed a powerslam. -The champions did not carry belts to the ring. -Referee: Lee Scott. -The Royal Family (Rip Morgan and Jack Victory) vs. The Young Pistols (Steve Armstrong and Tracey Smothers). Smothers pinned Morgan. -The house lights went out during the match and were seemingly replaced by spotlights until the arena was reilluminated. -Miss A and Miki Handa vs. Mami Kitamura and Itsumi Yamasaki. Crowd Estimate: 6,500. SuperBrawl I -Held on Sunday, the 19th of May, 1991 at the Bayfront Auditorium in St. Petersburg, Florida. The main event marked the rematch between Ric Flair and Tatsumi Fujinami for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Two months earlier, Fujinami beat Flair in a controversial match in Tokyo. Promoters in Japan recognized Fujinami as the champion, but the title change was never recognized in the United States. Flair was recognized by World Championship Wrestling as the World Champion. The belts were not the same. Billed as “Return from the Rising Sun.” Paul E. Dangerously hosted an edition of the Danger Zone with Stan Hansen as his guest. Missy Hyatt also interviewed many of the personalities backstage. -Ric Flair, WCW World Heavyweight Champion vs. Tatsumi Fujinami, IWGP and NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Flair defeated Fujinami to regain the NWA World Title, his ninth. -WCW World Heavyweight Title Match only. -Flair’s win broke the record Harley Race established in the 1980s. -Lex Luger, NWA/WCW United States Heavyweight Champion and Sting vs. The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner), NWA/WCW World Tag Team Champions. Scott pinned Sting to remain the tag champions. -Nikita Koloff hit Sting after going for Luger, leading to the final pin. -Bobby Eaton vs. Arn Anderson, NWA/WCW World Television Champion. Eaton pinned Anderson to capture the title. -Vacant NWA/WCW United States Tag Team Title Match.
