In early January 1911, Walter Miller arrived in Minneapolis and issued a challenge to
World Middleweight wrestling champion Henry Gehring. Miller, who'd been competing as
a welterweight and considered the champion of that division, was jumping to a higher
weight class. His challenge of Gehring was indicative of his willingness to face the best
the middleweights had to offer rather than work his way up the ladder.
