Background:
After 22 years as the leader of professional wrestling in Winnipeg, Alex Turk gave up his promotional interests in early October 1966. Al Tomko, a well-known wrestler, was going to assume the duties and hold his first show on October 17. It was reported that Tomko was going to hold affiliation to the Minneapolis wrestling group headed by Verne Gagne and Wally Karbo, and import top talent.
Turk suffered a heart attack on Sunday, October 26, 1975, and was recovering at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. He was 69 years of age.
